Our Story

Akatora means “Red Tiger” in Japanese — a name that evokes strength, boldness, and a fierce spirit.

In Japanese lore, the red tiger is one of three brothers — Akatora, Chutora, and Kurotora — each named after their respective color paired with the tiger. The red tiger stands for passion and intensity, qualities we channel into every dish.

We believe ramen is more than a meal — it's an experience. Our clear double broths are simmered for hours, layering depth and complexity. Every component, from our hand-selected chashu to our house-made tares, is prepared with precision and care.

But tradition alone doesn't define us. We push boundaries with dishes like our signature Garlic Butter Mussel Ramen — a silky white wine-garlic butter broth crowned with steamed mussels — and our Dual Harmony Shio, which finishes a classic shio with basil parmesan cheese.

Since opening in November 2025, we've called Brown Derby Plaza on Wilshire Boulevard our home. Koreatown is one of L.A.'s most vibrant food neighborhoods, and we're proud to add our voice to its rich tapestry of flavors.
